I was inspired by the Near Future Laboratory that designed “An IKEA Catalog From The Near Future”. Through design fiction the catalog encourages conversations about what the future could look like specifically connecting physical things to the Internet of Things. However it is not a prediction, specification or an aspiration. My aim was to design an outcome that stood alongside IKEAs values and connected with their vision to create a better life for the many people within a regional context. During this project I wanted to ‘design for good’ but also be able to reach the future target audience of sustainable living. As a prospective home owners myself, my design approach was to design for my own potential future. This ultimately meant that I could use first hand experiences and also allow me to empathise with the audience creating a desirable outcome. ” (2022)
